WATER QUALITY FOR FISHERIES:

Building stakeholder and public support for improved water quality in North Carolina.

NC fishing communities identified agricultural and factory farm runoff as a priority water quality concern, determined through our research-based survey with ECU. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations or CAFOs, are factory farms housing thousands of animals in confined spaces. Runoff containing fecal bacteria, excess nutrients, and hormones all affect NC fisheries.
