We’re thrilled to announce our next book club pick: “Charleston: Race, Water, and the Coming Storm” by Susan Crawford.

This insightful book takes a close look at how environmental issues intersect with racial and social justice, focusing on Charleston, SC. As residents of coastal North Carolina, we find many parallels between the challenges faced in Charleston and our own community.

Why This Book?

How to Participate

  1. Get the Book: Find “Charleston: Race, Water, and the Coming Storm” at your local bookstore or online.
  2. Read Along: Join the conversation by reading the book and reflecting on its themes.
  3. Join the Discussion: Participate in the CCRW Advocacy Working Group meetings to hear and share local concerns about related issues around sea level rise, water quality, land use, environmental justice, and anything that impacts your quality of life in coastal NC. Share your insights, and learn from others in our community.

By exploring this book together, we aim to deepen our understanding of the complex relationship between environmental health and social justice and inspire collective action to protect our coastal communities.
