It’s Farm Friday! Farm Friday is an initiative by Coastal Carolina Riverwatch to promote small farmers in our watersheds. Supporting local farmers reduces our ecological footprints, protects water quality, and benefits our community. This week, we are highlighting a different kind of farm, Oysters Carolina!
Oysters Carolina is dedicated to providing the people of North Carolina with the freshest shellfish in the state. They also have taken major steps toward sustainability. Oysters Carolina uses kayaks to reach their farms rather than gas-fueled boats. They don’t use a davit – or any other mechanical contraption – to lift the hefty oyster cages; only arm strength. Steps are taken to reduce plastic in their operations as well.
Coastal Carolina Riverwatch is proud to have Ryan Bethea of Oysters Carolina on our Board of Directors.
“As an oyster farmer, water quality is the most important thing for my business. Protecting clean water and habitats is why I dedicate my time to Coastal Carolina Riverwatch.”
– Ryan Bethea, Board of Directors, Owner of Oysters Carolina
